Quick FAQ for Eighth Graders
Can I do band and sports and other activities?
Absolutely! Band students at Kimberly High School are involved in just about everything — football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, track, clubs, student council, and even part-time jobs. If it exists at KHS, you can do it all! Over 80% of our band students participate in at least one sport or club.
We want you to be involved. Performances are scheduled specifically to avoid conflicts with athletic and co-curricular events whenever possible. The goal is simple: you should be able to do everything KHS has to offer, band included.
Can I do band and honors, AP, or CAPP classes?
No problem! Many band students at KHS are enrolled in honors, AP, and CAPP courses. Band easily fits into your school day, and our counselors are great at building a schedule that challenges you while staying in music classes.
Band actually helps many students succeed in advanced classes by building time management skills, organization, and focus. You don’t have to choose between being a strong student and being in band — you can (and should) do both.
Can I be in both Band and Choir?
Yep! Many students do both. Band and Choir are scheduled at the same time, so students can be involved in both programs. There are only a few music classes that overlap, and when they do, students can easily split their time.
KHS offers summer and online gym classes for students who have music classes and are trying to fit in other electives.
What’s Jazz Band like at the high school?
Jazz Band is one of the most popular classes at KHS, and for good reason. It’s energetic, creative, and a ton of fun!
We have three jazz bands, so there are no auditions. Anyone who wants to be in a jazz band can be in one.
Jazz bands meet every other day and during the school day, just like other classes. And no, being in a Jazz Band does not mean you lose your lunch!
What else do band students get to do?
A lot! When you’re in the high school band, you get to do all of the fun stuff — traveling to exciting state and playoff games, performing for huge crowds at the Appleton Christmas Parade, going on the Pep Band Tour with your friends, and taking memorable trips every other spring break.
Music, friends, travel, and memories. You get all of it!
