Welcome to a New Year!
We are excited to welcome all of our Kimberly High School band students and families to a new school year!  We have a lot of great music, performances, and fun planned for our students this year.  Thank you for choosing to be a part of our life-changing organization!  Over the past years, we have seen remarkable growth in our programs and have enjoyed a dramatic increase in both student and parental involvement. With such a great response and a strong work ethic from our students, our program will continue to thrive!

This year's band camp was a resounding success.  It was wonderful to hear the sounds of the band again and all sections made terrific progress in the short time we were together.  This bodes well for the fall season and beyond!

Families, there have been countless studies that prove how valuable a music class is to the minds of our young adults.  We certainly don’t expect the majority of our students to become music majors or enter the professional music field. Still, the long-lasting impact of participating in a music class for an extended period will undoubtedly aid all of our students’ successes in whatever they may do after graduation.  Please take a few moments to read this short article published by Forbes magazine about a recent study done on students studying music in high school.

Families and students, please take a moment to look over and subscribe to our Kimberly Bands Google Calendar.  It is the easiest way to stay up-to-date with the happenings of the band program.  Printed copies are available in the band rooms; however, this Google calendar will be updated regularly with any changes or additions.  When planning absences during the school year, please try to avoid performance dates so that your student has the opportunity to be a part of the full experience of a performance with their classmates.

First Pep Band of the Season — Thursday, August 28
This Thursday will be the first pep band performance of the season at Papermaker Stadium.  Freshmen are exempt; this performance will be for sophomores, juniors, and seniors only.  Please wear your band polo or dress in the White-Out theme.  The schedule is below.

5:30 - band door (7W) opens

6:10 - attendance in band rooms with drum majors, assemble instruments
6:20 - travel to Papermaker Stadium
6:30 - arrive at Papermaker Stadium, unload, move to playing area
6:40 - play pregame
7:00 - game begins, play for touch downs only
7:45 - play for half-time
8:00 - load buses, return to KHS
8:10 - arrive at KHS, pack up equipment, dismissal

School-Related Conflicts for Pep Band
This year, we are altering how time conflicts between pep band performances and other school-related games/matches/meets/etc are handled.

Students who are participating in a
school-related activity (game/match/meet/etc) during a pep band performance are excused.  This may include being on the team playing while we perform or on a team that has an away event during our performance.  To be excused, students must fill out this form before the performance begins.   We recommend filling out the form for all absences once the team calendar is released. Our athletic director states that performances supersede practices. The same is true the other way around — games/matches/meets/etc supersede band practices. With that said, coaches aren't allowed to hold this against students in any way, especially by reducing playing time. If this is an issue, please let the directors or Mr. McGinnis know, and we can work it out with the coach.

New Band Polos
This year, we are excited to introduce a more modern band polo featuring two cuts, new material, and updated logos! All students need a polo for pep band and other performances.  Freshmen, new students, and any returning students who want a new polo should complete this form and submit $15 promptly to place an order.  Orders are open through 3pm on September 5, 2025.  Students with an existing polo are welcome to continue wearing it.

Forms and Fees
Please return the signed Handbook Acknowledgement Form (on page 13) and the Field Trip Permission Form (on pages 15–16) by the first Friday of school, September 5. Both the student and a parent or legal guardian must sign the Acknowledgement Form.

Additionally, students will have one or two fees for the school year.  All students are responsible for paying the annual $5 band portfolio fee. If this fee was not paid via Infinite Campus during registration, please submit it as soon as possible. Students who will be renting a school-owned instrument have a rental form to return and a yearly rental fee of $125 (percussionists have an annual fee of $50). We appreciate your prompt attention to these payments.

Supplies for Success in Band
Each Kimberly band student has required materials in order to be successful. Most students have had these supplies since 5th grade, though you may have run out of some items, or they may have been lost. Supplies can be purchased at Heid Music or from other online retailers. Please have these supplies ready for the first day of school.
