Performance Tips
  1. Before you leave school on Friday, be sure you have your instrument and any accessories (reeds, mutes, mouthpiece, neck strap, valve oil, etc.). Make sure you have all of your music. Double check!
  2. Dress up! This is a formal performance. First impressions can make a world of difference with a judge. If you dress confidently, it will help you play more confidently.
  3. Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled performance time. Parking can be challenging, and you want to make sure you aren’t feeling rushed.
  4. Make sure you have your judge’s copy! If you are sharing a judge’s copy, make sure you have a plan to get it from the person using it before you.
  5. Report to your room 5 minutes before your performance time. Check in with the door monitor and give them your judge’s copy when they are ready. Wait for your accompanist - even if they are late!
  6. Don’t forget your introduction!
  7. Do not leave the room without your judge’s copy. You need to return this to the directors on Monday.
  8. Thank your accompanist. A thank you card is more than appropriate for the time and effort they have put in to perform with you!
  9. Concessions are in the Halsey Lobby. Proceeds benefit UWO music student organizations. Other food options are available near campus.
  10. Results will be posted on www.wsmamusic.org/festivals/state/oshkosh/  throughout the day. They will be updated approximately every 2 hours.
  11. Congratulations! You did it! Regardless of the rating, you should be proud of your efforts and musical growth. Throughout this entire process, you have become a better musician.

Good luck to everyone, and have fun performing! You have worked hard for this day. Do your best, and enjoy the day of performances and constructive advice from the judges.
