Scheduling in Xello

All music classes are skinnies at KHS, similar to what you’re used to at JRG. Skinny classes take up half of a block, so your music class will be paired with another class during third block. Because of this pairing, scheduling mistakes can sometimes happen. Follow the steps below carefully to avoid problems.

Important Tips
  • You must have 2 total credits scheduled during third block. Concert Band counts for 1 credit. Your other choice(s) will complete the other credit. 
  • When you add Concert Band or Chorale to your elective choices, Xello automatically adds 3AB Exempt Year. This is worth 0 credits and ensures that no other courses are scheduled over your music class(es).
  • Jazz Lab Band will initially appear as 0 credits, but the counselors will manually add the .5 credit later.  These are in addition to the credits earned in steps one and two below. You will still need to have 2 skinny credits.

Scheduling for Concert Band Only
Concert Band is 1 credit.  You will need to add 1 more credit from the choices in step 2 to complete this block.
  1. Click Add Elective 9.  Search for and select Concert Band Skinny. Click Done at the top.
  2. Select one of the following choices:
  • Click Add Social Studies 9.  Search for and select Civics/Geography Skinny (1 credit). Click Done.
  • Click Add Social Studies 9.  Search for and select AP Human Geography Skinny (1 credit). Click Done.
  • Click Add Math 9.  Search for and select Math 1 Skinny (1 credit). Click Done. 

Scheduling for Concert Band and Jazz Lab Band
Concert Band is 1 credit, and Jazz Lab Band is 0 credits in Xello.  You will need to add 1 more credit from the choices in step 2 to complete this block. Jazz Lab Band meets every other day and runs during the second half of your lunch.
  1. Click Add Elective 9.  Search for and select Concert Band Skinny. Click Done at the top.
  2. Click Add Elective 9.  Search for and select Jazz Lab Band Skinny. Click Done.
  3. Select one of the following choices:
  • Click Add Social Studies 9.  Search for and select Civics/Geography Skinny (1 credit). Click Done.
  • Click Add Social Studies 9.  Search for and select AP Human Geography Skinny (1 credit). Click Done.
  • Click Add Math 9.  Search for and select Math 1 Skinny (1 credit). Click Done. 

Note
  • If you want to take Jazz Lab Band, Math 1, and AP Human Geography, you can take APHG as a regular, non-skinny course.

Scheduling for Concert Band and Choir
Concert Band and Chorale are both 1 credit. These two will fulfill the two required credits for your third block. Additional choir classes will still fit, either during the third skinny of third block or alternating with Concert Band.
  1. Click Add Elective 9.  Search for and select Concert Band Skinny.
  2. Clear the search bar. Search for and select Chorale Skinny. If you want to add additional choirs, repeat this process. Click Done at the top. 

Notes
  • If you want to take band, choir, and a foreign language, there are options for summer school and online physical education classes. Talk to your counselor about enrolling in these!
  • If you want to take Varsity Bass, you will alternate days with Concert Band.

Scheduling for Concert Band, Jazz Lab Band, and Choir
Concert Band and Chorale are both 1 credit. These two will fulfill the two required credits for your third block. Additional choir classes will still fit with Jazz Lab Band, likely alternating with another music class every other day.  Jazz Lab Band meets every other day and runs during the second half of your lunch, similar to auxiliary choirs.
  1. Click Add Elective 9.  Search for and select Concert Band Skinny.
  2. Clear the search bar. Search for and select Chorale Skinny. If you want to add any additional choirs, repeat this process.
  3. Clear the search bar. Search for and select Jazz Lab Band Skinny. Click Done.

Notes
